Tips to curb cravings

Are you struggling with craving something more or something to snack on that isn’t part of the plan? Maybe your willpower is dwindling or you’re playing the mental game of convincing yourself one more handful of Boom Chicka Pop is fine? One more chunk of chocolate? A little more wine? We have put together a few tips that might help you guard your mind and yourself when these cravings seem to take over your mind!

REMOVE Temptations. If you can, get those tempting food items out of your main food storage zone or don’t buy them at all anymore. If you live with others who keep tempting treats around, set aside a different area or tote or cupboard for their food items so they aren’t easily catching your eye.

EAT Enough. Make sure you’re getting most of your food in during the day. Don’t hoard all your macros for dessert. Eat enough throughout the day so your blood sugar stays level, you feel satisfied, and you’re not in a situation where you’re so hungry you’ll eat anything.

If evenings are a struggle, set a CUT OFF time. Stop eating by 7pm. Or set a time that works for you. Make it your rule. Get your dinner in, maybe your "something sweet,” or whatever you pre-log into your macros to end your day and then stop eating by your set time. Stick to it! It’ll feel so good.

Go DO something! Don’t hang around the kitchen or pantry or food. Go on a walk, ride your bike, read a book, watch a show, play a game, go to bed, make a cozy spot away from food where you have a set up for journaling, yoga, reading, or whatever fills you up!

Make some TEA. Make yourself a nice calorie-free beverage. Maybe warm tea if you are wanting something warm, or a LaCroix with ice, fruit, and fresh herbs if craving something cold. When you start feeling those cravings, combat it with hydration and something satisfying like tea or fizzy water.

Chewing some gum, snacking on pickles (gotta love ‘free’ food), or drinking some apple cider vinegar can curb cravings!

DO NOT STOCK UP. It can be tempting to wanna stock up when we finally go to the store, but there is no reason to buy “extra” wine, popcorn, or sweet and savory snacks. Having bulk of the tempting foods in your house is not necessary! Make it challenging for you to get your hands on whatever food you are craving. It’s likely that if you have to put clothes on and head to the store, you will resist due to the inconvenience of it all.
